I don't have such a sample handy (although I may be able to capture one in the next week or two), but if it helps you search the main vendor of these fast-disappearing displays was the Solari company, which no longer makes them. You're not the only person who likes the sound:
Again, no promises, but I'll try to get the sound of one in the next couple weeks.

I would go with that!
see ya
I grabbed a quick recording of the Solari flap-board sign at the Philadelphia, PA (USA) train station on my way home this evening. It's definitely a "field recording" and not especially clean enough to be suitable as a stand-alone sign sound effect, although if you isolate the mid channel it may be usable at low quality for that purpose (especally with some agressive low-cut filtering).
I just uploaded it here in various formats (MP3 and 96K/24 WAV mixed as A-B stereo and unprocessed M/S); look for it in the mab-bigboard sample pack when it gets moderated in (I presume in the next few days).

The samples I mentioned above are now available here (thanks to the fast moderator):

I'll add matching room tone (without the sign) and more processed sign samples to the pack later, which might make these useful as a train station / airport background effects kit.

wow, is that what it's all about... sharing sound and record it if requested for free... almost...
thanks, great sound, it's find for a close up!
Thanks for the kind words, Marty. In any case, while I'm not at all satisfied with this sample (I may do it again if I can get the cooperation of a place with one of these signs to do closer miking), it was quick and easy to do and it may be adequate for some purposes. Bt the way, the room tone track and a more processed flapboard track (with reduced ambient noise) have now also been uploaded and are available in the mab-bigboard pack.
