Am desperate looking for some silence. Need to place silence betwwen other sounds, 5 sek, 20 sek or even upp to a minute of silece betwwen different sounds. Might seem easy enoug to make the "quiet sound" but I do not know how. Please somebody help!!
(Will make a record to go in background with baby noice and need the silence in order to give the sounds right effect?
Or is it already to be found somewhere?
Best regards,
Kristina
As a sound engineer I've never been requested to make silence before.... This seems like one of the craziest ideas I've ever come across! A lack of anything generally produces silence... Record nothing, put nothing in the project, turn the volume to infinite - and voila... silence!... The magic nothing. This post made me laugh myself silly
Wow this is hilarious.
Even funnier that someone posted a file.

certainly funny but I have always been looking for an exterior silence, I recorded one in White Sands New Mexico, few years back. A boring silence... I uploaded it if you need it, it is more the idea of silence that is interesting. I understand your problem of having a silence in a piece of music because having nothing is very distabilising but a silence, sort of air brings back the confort, it is the same in a movie, you have a small air that fills the nothing...
It should be accessible once it passes the moderation stage.
Enjoy
I just did a remix with this file... chopped it up, duplicated it, did a lot of pitchshifting, added some reverb and stereo chorus and sequenced it all into a 3 minute long song.
but yeah, it's 3 minutes of silence... but post production, mastered silence.

i find it interesting that there is a boring silence. surely a boring silence and a nice silence are the same?
hehe, what breaks when you say it?
silence.
read that on a penguin or something
Heh, actually I have a collection of 2, 5, and 10 second slugs I made for various odd jobs. They really came in handy when I was making a CD to be used for SFX and music during a theater performance... having a whole track's worth of padding in between songs can be a life saver!

If you record without mics, and then turn the volume to infinite, you are going to get some noise, right ?
Most equipment i used produces some noise that can be amplified.
In fact, silence as "total absence of sound" is just a quimera, or more like a concept. Silence is relative. The bathroom is silent compared to the convention, but i am sure there are hums and moving waters, low rumble and high buzzes coming from the lights etc.
I am sure many many of you know that John Cage's story about when he entered an anechoic room, but maybe some don't, so here it is:

Notice that he got the idea for 4'33'' from Rauschenberg's white paintings...
