Hi there,
I am a software developer who knows nothing about sound
Now I need some simple sound files for notifying the user about application-events like "connected", "disconnected" and so on...

Maybe someone can help me with this little problem.

I'm sure someone can. Do you have an idea of the sort of sounds you would like? Any examples you could point us at or quote? Do you want spoken words, or beeps?

So many questions ....

I don't have any idea of the sort of sound... should be kind of beeps like in instant messenger programs (!) ,for example. The sounds should be relatively simple so that the user gets informed by them but not annoyed.
Some information about my app:

- VPN client to establish a secure connection between client and server
- it's called Shimo which means "Tunnel" in english

Yes... A basic sound came to mind.

The start and stop on a cassette recorder.

Play says CONNECT -

At least to me... but then I've been addicted to audio recording since (at the very least) 1972. I will post some sounds from my trusty Marantz PMD201

NOTE: After listening again - I'm not so sure anymore - but there they are.

interesting, sure, but I think those sounds are a bit too "little"

- disconnected
- error
- information

Now I need some simple sound files for notifying the user about application-events like "connected", "disconnected" and so on...

As it happens, I made four such sounds a little while ago, and I've just uploaded them this minute (awaiting moderation). May or may not be useful to you, I put them in a pack called 'glass interface' (I think). There might be a few more samples that could be coaxed out of the recordings... I might upload the longer samples of me messing around with a big glass jar at some point, although I'd like to make better recordings at some point... maybe over the christmas holidays... anyway, I digress.

I'm not sure if my samples will be useful to you, but they were created with a similar purpose in mind. I'll post links when I have them.
