Hi,
I'm looking for the kind o sound you'd hear in a wrestling game when you do a joint/bone-popping move or hold. For example has anyone played the wrestling series FirePro Wrestling? I'd need a sound like that which you hear when you apply a submission hold.
Now I don't need someone to break their bone for me to fulfill the request. If someone wants to do this with their mike, I think you could make the sound with your mouth- keeping your mouth closed and sticking your tongue to the roof of your mouth while letting some air pass through the top. That's how I do it anyway . Any help is appreciated- thanks a bunch!
I happen to have bones that like to crack, so you're in luck if you're looking for a more authentic sound.
I uploaded about 30 some odd sounds made from recordings of my bones (elbows, ankles, fingers, jaw) snapping. My recording setup isn't the greatest, but I compensated for it a little with some processing. There should be something in the pack that is useable for you.
Breakdown of the file names:
Single - Recordings which contain a single pop, or single pops seperated from "multi" recordings
Multi - Recordings in which multiple cracks happened in one shot
Jaw - Recordings of me popping my jaw, a bit lower than the bone sounds, but kinda glassy sounding
Allinone - Mixtures of the bone / jaw recordings stacked with no particular attention paid to the order
Combo - Mixtures of a few bone / jaw sounds in combination to sound extra gruesome
Filt - Bone samples which have been filtered by a heavy lowpass for a more hollow sound
Search for sample pack: "bones", it may take a while before the sounds are checked
Enjoy
P.S.
If theres are particular combos/samples which you like best, I could make some different variations of them just let me know which ones. Also, I wasn't sure if you would want any reverb on these, so I left them dry, but it could help to make them sound more realistic. This has been one of the more enjoyable things I've done with sound in a while, so I wouldn't mind working on it a bit more, just ask.
Thank you, EcoDTR, for taking the time to do this. I think there's definitely use I can get out of these. I chose a few of them and they sound pretty close to what I'm looking for, only I need to edit them to make them sound more internal and muffled. I don't, however, have much experience in editing sounds. I managed to find one free program that does effects- called audioblast. Any ideas on how to make it sound more.. "internal"?
Thanks again!
EDIT: well it appears I can't edit the sounds for reasons having to do with their format. When I attempt to open them up with Audioblast I get the error> "This wave has the IMB format".
What platform are you using? Any idea what format would work?
As for making the sounds more internal sounding, i would suggest experimenting with lowpass filters, (boost the lows and/or supress highs)
If you let me know which ones you want to use, I could alter them for you.
What are these going to be used for if you don't mind me asking?
I'm creating an isometric game that involves fighting. The sounds would be used when there's a bonecrunching move or submission hold.
I'm using Windows XP. The sounds I chose to work with were called:
27452_EcoDTR_bonesallinone
27461_EcoDTR_filtcombo3
Can I ask what program you use to edit the sounds?
Wav format should work fine. I researched this IBM file type, and I think it has something to do with Mac computers. I'm sure I can use the sound for the game fine, but I might have trouble editing it unless I find some kind of converter.
Thanks again
I see you've added quite a bit more. I have a sound that I made myself that's more of what I had in mind (taken from a fe heartbeat sounds) and I'd like to mix it with your sounds (yeah, I'm picky). The one you just mentioned that you muffled a bit will work great. But again, problem is it's not letting me edit your sounds, even in Sound Recorder. Do you think the samples are "licensed"? I really don't know the reason it's not letting me edit them.
Yeah, I can't seem to load these in any other players, but I tried converting to 16bit, and they seem to work fine, if you have an email address, I'll send you the whole pack converted, and you can take a listen. (The quality of the actual samples is quite a bit better than they sound on the freesound player).
The muffled ones haven't been added yet lol, you must have been listening to the old ones. I'm not sure what's going on with that.
If you give me an email address, I'll send you a zip w/ all of them though. It shouldn't be too big when they are converted to 16 bit mono (they were recorded mono anyway, not sure why I have them in stereo)
EDIT: zip is about 655 k
Ok, that sounds great. My email address is mussash6@yahoo.com.
EDIT: the forum doesn't seem to allow symbols. so it's "mussash6" followed by the "AT" symbole (no spaces) then "yahoo.com"
Fantastic stuff Eco! I especially like combo4 and filtbonesallinone.
I made a similar sound effect for a film a few months ago by slowing down the sound of cracking pasta. Dunno if you still need it but you can find it as neck_crack_pure.aif, or neck_crack.wav with an added swish to make a complete "ninja neck snap" sound effect.
