I am looking for some help finding similar sounds in the following movie clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSRsOijpr5Q
Specifically, I am looking for similar tones heard at 0:03 in the movie, and a similar "THX"-like sound heard at 1:04 in the clip.
I tried searching through the files, but I did not have much luck, and I am not sure what keywords to use. Could anyone help? Maybe some keyword suggestions? I really appreciate it, thanks!!
Sounds like a cheesy 80's synth, no wonder. I think what you're looking for is a rising synth pad, or one half of a sweep.
I did a search for "synth pad sweep" and got this cool sample among other things.
they synth in the clip sounds like a roland jx8p circa 1984/85...
i believe the actual patch name is 'planet' or something like that, it's been a while since i owned that synth.....
for the pad, you can use a combination of saw and ramp waves, and give it a longer attack rate, and a longer release rate found in the adsr panel on basicaly any vst synth...
for the thx sweeping effect, use portomento (or glide, as some vst's call it) that will automatically bend your note from the previous note played or from a standstill position....you'd have to play around with that until you reach the desired effect...
for the soft bell sound, you can use a pulse, tri or square wave, turn down some of the hpf (hi pass frequency) to soften up the sound abit, lessen the decay and sustain abit and raise the release till you have a small fade out effect from when you actually release the note played....
then add a small amount of lfo (low frequency oscillator) or vibrato to complete the bell like sound
