I'm looking for a really big, deep bass drum sound, like the big ones in orchestras that they whack with those drumsticks with the furry bits on the end. For some reason I'm unable to find one anything like it... So if anyone's got such a sample, or can recommend a decent freeware VST drum plugin I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
The orchestral instrument I think you're referring to is called a timpani.
spt was awesome enough to create a lot of timpani sounds for me. Check out his sample pack here:

Some are experimental but I think you'll find the sound that you're looking for in this group of samples.
Or maybe a plain bass drum sound, but the orchestral type, with no cushions in it, and played with sticks.
Thanks guys, timpani seems to be what I was thinking of. I actually dismissed the timpani before without listening to it, as it's name makes it sound far too small to be a big drum... if that makes any sense. Anyway, thanks for the link, Soundhead. Cheers!
Dont judge a book by its cover
lol yeah I admit the Timpani's name is a bit "sissy". But I play them in school and the BOOMs you can get from this are earth shattering... we had a piece where Timpanis "acted" like canons....the class shook at every hit
