Hello every body!
I know my request is terribly arrogant. You are going to tell me to do it by myself and you would be right. But...... i did it. And...... you are actually wrong I still do need those samples because i just can't make a recording and then edit something that would sound nice in my emu esi4000. I am just a pianist, desperatly in need for a playable kora sound (i also tried ethno world 3, and .... my stuff is even better if you see what i mean...).
Thank you for your suggestions, if you know where i can find something for example, or if you have some advices for the recording process.
Have a nice day.
If you, like me, are wondering what the hell a "kora" is:
A kora is built from a large calabash cut in half and covered with cow skin to make a resonator, and has a notched bridge like a lute or guitar. The sound of a kora resembles that of a harp, though when played in the traditional style, it bears a closer resemblance to flamenco guitar techniques. The player uses only the thumb and index finger of both hands to pluck the strings in polyrhythmic patterns (using the remaining fingers to hold the sticks either side of the strings and secure the instrument). Ostinato riffs ("Kumbeng" and improvised solo runs ("Biriminting" are played at the same time by skilled players.

Hey There.
I did some Kora samples and my friend clipped them up neatly and uploaded them to a site called Soundsnap. Here's the address. www.ojoo.com/search/audio/kora
Hope this isn't sending you to the competition but creative commons seems like an open ethos.
I'm new to this site and will hopefully upload them all here when I get chance.
We did loads of instruments. There should be 21 strings from the Kora.
if not let me know and I'll see if I can find em.....
Best of luck.. paul.....
also there is a track on my myspace page
that I did just using the samples we put on this site
and the Kora is on there..... www.myspace.com/paulflute
cheers. p. ;9)
Thanks a lot Paul. It s very kind of you.
I have actually downloaded the all 15 one shot samples from "audiofruit" on sound snap but.... I was looking for multi samples (3 or 4 different velocities in each keys) from a real kora player. It can seems to be arogant in a certain way but i already have a full set of kora samples in the same velocity but from a real kora player and the difference is huge. Kora players don't only trigger the strings with the top of their fingers but really manage to get a special sound from it, with the experience, and also with their nails (or the very hard skin they have on the edge of their nails). I have been practising kora for 2 years and i never managed to get that sound from the strings. As i am a pianist, i was looking for very high quality samples so that i could really reproduce this sound on a keybaord. The samples i have recorded by myself are very poor compared with what a real kora player can produce (same and even worst for djembe if you can imagine...). I guess it just doesn't exist yet. But i really want to thank you for your answer, it is nice. bye.
