I'm trying to capture impulses from clapper board recordings used on a film set. This is so that I can match post recorded audio (foley spots, ADR) with the set recordings (mainly dialogue). The clapper recordings that I've so far located sound great, I can actually hear the reverb I'm after in these recordings.
I'm new to IR capturing, and with the de-convolvers I've used (Acoustic Mirror, Voxengo's) a test tone file is requested. In this case I imagine I need a dry clapper board recording for my test tone, with no reverb present (anachoic chamber anyone?). If someone can record/upload a good quality one that would be ace. The recordings I have were done using a rifle mic, an MKH I believe. Alternatively some tips or help on how I can otherwise capture the responses would be appreciated.
Cheers
Chris
I'd think you'd need a sweep sound recorded at a location as reverb works differently for different frequencies.
But if the clapper works fine for you, I've just finished recording in a medium large sized toilet in a club, lots of reverb there. I can upload a clap.
I was looking for a dry clapper however, it seems that you don't even need to de-convolve clapper & starting pistol type impulses, just load them straight into your convolution processor. I think some EQ and shelving before you use the impulse makes a difference though. Does anyone know of a way to process an impulse 'live'? So that you can hear the output as you process the actual impulse input.
I'm getting some pleasing results with the first clapper I've found. Not a particulalrly great reverb but it'll help to fit sounds better in the mix (or screen). I'll upload one later for you Bram.
