Hi all.
Where would I find creative commons licensed sample packs which contain a recording of every note an instrument is capable of? Preferably it would have velocity layers but this is not essential. I am just looking for the most common instruments, i.e Piano, Violin, Trumpet, Guitar etc. Whenever I search for these things it returns samples which use these instruments, but I am yet to find a fully sampled instrument.
I have seen plenty of free soundfont files on the web but i'm not sure about the legality of using them in my own application. I'd rather use something licensed under creative commons, and obviously I would credit the original author.
If it is beyond the scope of this website, could anyone tell me how I could legally acquire such samples for use in my own software.. for as cheap as possible!
Thanks.
Search "multi-sample" or multisample or multi sample. There are some on here, but not so many of typical instruments found in a general MIDI map.
There are also numerous spots on the web, an american college, a british symphony, etc. that have multisamples of orchestral instruments, I never got to into them because most synths have the generic orchestra sound samples built in, but they are out there:

Much easier to get them here though:

Here is the college I mentioned above...
http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html
This one seems to be down at the moment...
Here is a reference to another variation of the link:
Damn frustrating...
Probably not so helpful, but maybe...

Its a pity the iowa university samples are down. They seem to be exactly what i'm looking for. I've done some searching around the web for 'multisample' and came up with the OLPC audio library (http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sound_samples) which, from what i've downloaded so far, looks like it could be perfect. Unfortunately the piano link is down, but hopefully it will be restored soon.
Thanks for your help
