Try mixing the following sounds together:
1 - recording of sand pooring from one or two large buckets
2 - recording of hand rustling pebbles or gravel
3 - recording of several throws of relatively large stones. Get hits against dirt and against other stones.
4 - For a source of rumble, I suggest traffic noise or noise from a construction site. Low pass filter (24dB filter) tom remove everything above 30Hz or so. Experiment a bit with the frequency and the resonance setting. Try different filters / EQs if you have them available to find the best sound.
I think one of the trickiest aspects will be to record a continuous and steady sound for element 1 above.
Maybe it will work better with a group of people (I think you need 6 hands...) with a small sand box and cups. Filling and pooring so that you get a 'constant stream of sand' sound.
The mix of sounds 1-4 needs to match the kind of landslide.
Mostly dirt means more of 1 and 2 Mostly stones means more 2 and 3. Very big, means more 4.
If you have a change of recording trucks at a construction site or quarry unloading stone or gravel, you should.
What else is in the landslide? Just dirt and stones or also trees and vegetation? Buildings?
You can rustle some leaves and snap twigs to simulate vegetation.
For buildings, trucks unloading stone is good. Sounds from constructions, and especially demolition would be great. Some glass breaking also adds to realism.
