I am in need of a raccoon sound for my MyABCs project. I had one a while back that I liked very much that supposedly was in the public domain, but I could not verify the source so I removed it. It appears to me that raccoons are not very vocal. Perhaps they are more vocal as juveniles. I do have raccoons here where I live, but it is rare to hear them make any sort of sound. It wasn't until just a couple weeks ago that I heard some chattering outside my door. I went outside & saw a momma raccoon with I think two babies. It was the first time I had heard a raccoon make that noise, outside of film & videos. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get anything to record them before they disappeared.
If anyone could produce a sound bite of a raccoon chattering under a CC BY, CC BY-SA, or CC0 license, I would much appreciate it.

There are two files uploaded to Wikimedia
Sorry, but I have to question the accuracy of your statement. After doing a Google search with "site:wikimedia.org", all I could come up with was these two pages:
Procyon lotor (scientific name for raccoons)
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Procyon_lotor
Under the "Audio/Video" category, all it has is two files: (1) a sound file with a man pronouncing the word "racoon" and (2) a video of a racoon, in which the animal does not make a sound.
Category: Procyon
rocyon" rel="nofollow">https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category: Procyon
Under the 'Media in category "Procyon"' category are 8 files, all of which are images.
So, please: If you know where to find audio recordings of a raccoon making a "chattering" or similar sound, please share the links. I could use something like this, myself, for a project I'm working on.
I've sent a couple requests on YouTube videos, but I haven't received a response yet.
I found the sound effect that I had previously used on a couple different websites. However, I didn't find any licensing information. I have emailed the site owners & am awaiting a response.
Here are the sources:
- degus.com: http://www.degus.com/sounds/Distress.wav
- terrierman.com: http://www.terrierman.com/Sounds/raccoon2.wav
The sites appear to be somewhat older, so I don't know if it's likely I will get a reply.
