Hey Free Sound Creatives:
This is something we would do for creative fun since I have no money to pay and really don't make any money from my poems-as-songs soundscapes. I've been recording covers for lesser-known or more esoteric artists (Laura Nyro, Jane Siberry, Anna Domino to name a few), and I was wondering if members would like to contribute music, sounds to this project. You can hear work I've done prior for free over at Band Camp, https://stephenmead.bandcamp.com/, and see where I have given credit to users in the past.
This time around, depending on how it goes, I thought it would be nice to give credit using real names and calling ourselves the Free Sound Ensemble or something like that. As you can tell, this is just brainstorming but I figure we could email files back and forth. If interested, please message me here to prevent trolling or meanness at the outset for yes, I know I am an amateur experimental without the greatest of vocal chops already. Thanks!
I am up for it. I am good at coming up with melodies but lack vocal talent, might be a good team ?
also what kind of stuff do you wanna make?
Hi Beetlemuse: I hope you are well. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I really appreciate your interest. For me, the thing about doing "Covers" is to pay homage to the original while giving a personal interpretation. I like ambient, atmospheric soundscapes, but also haunting choral, chamber music traces...like the group, "This Mortal Coil".
Don't you have to get permission when doing a cover? How will we go about doing this? I checked out TMC, I like their songs. Is there a certain one you want to do?
Hi there Mead815,
Though I've had an account here a long while, just uploaded some sounds today. Not yet moderated.
how is the project coming along? I'm happy to attempt a contribution if you wish. I play bass, guitar, and make lots of odd synth sounds on software synths.
Best,
"Itinerant"
