There is a ton of stuff out there. If you got a keyboard/synthesizer I would look to get some vst plugins that you can run on something like vsthost(which is free).
Music made with 8bit stuff is generally called chip tunes. You can do a search for atari, gameboy, c64/commodore64, and nes, or chip tunes on Freesound for waves.

Just a note: I'm not really sure of the "legality" of all these sounds. Some of them really sound like the ones in actual games. It's possible some aren't "legal". Then again I've never heard of chip tunes people running into legal trouble.
