Being an Indie filmmaker myself, I've often sat around public areas (restaurants, hospitals, airports, stock exchange, train station, church, streets at night, busy highways, creepy forests, etc) and regretted NOT bringing my ZOOM digital recorder with me to get at least a few minutes of ambient sound.

When filmmakers, or even youtube video editors, or music video editors, need an ambient noise, they often have to struggle to find something. And we don't have the time or capability to do our own 'FOLEY' session to create the sounds.

I've downloaded sound effects from this site and used them (with proper attribution when requested of course) on video projects and they've saved my butt on multiple occasions.

To pay back the FREESOUND community, I'm going to try (life schedules pending) to gather as much ambient sound effects that OTHERS can use in their works. I recently helped a young filmmaker finish her short film. She had filmed a scene of two actress friends talking in a 'coffee house set' she had built in her living room. The problem is that there was no background noise. I just gifted her a 4 minute sound clip I had of a local coffee house, with the caveat that she had to edit out my own stupid voice when I was talking to myself, LOL. I intend to get a 'clean' version to share with FREESOUND.

Anyone else willing to go out there and just RECORD stuff that they think other people can use? Let me know in the replies.

What is an ambient sound (of a particular place) that you've needed in the past, but had trouble getting? Looking forward to seeing what people need or think of.

Ambient sounds are the best! I'm about to upload a few I grabbed from the Island of St. Lucia.

This is just awesome. I'm so thankful to anyone who's put their work on this site, especially with CC0. It's such a pleasure as an ambient music maker to be able to find quality sounds I could never have gotten myself.
