Hello there!
I was watching a video by SmarterEveryDay.
https://youtu.be/eNK2LI7VeX4?si=ZDfurFLgm8VY7qAN
And they mentioned a few times how the soundscape noticeably changed during the couple of minutes of a total solar eclipse.
The bugs being confused, crickets and cicada fading out and back in, bees flying back to the nest or landing.
That amazes me! I'm unfortunately unable to go record the next one (April 8, 2024 USA).
But please do think of leaving a few microphones here and there! (And cameras ?
Dates for total eclipses :
April 8, 2024 USA
August 12, 2026 Spain and Greenland
August 2, 2027 Morocco, Spain egypt, Saudi Arabia,
July 22, 2028 Australia, New Zealand
November 25, 2030, Botswana, South Africa, Australia
Here are some dates for Annular eclipses :
October 2, 2024 Argentina, Chile,
February 17, 2026 Antarctica, (That sounds like a unique place for a unique event, if you know anyone there, please let them know to take a recorder on their expedition!)
For more dates : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_solar_eclipses_in_the_21st_century
I'll try comeback and post here a week before each total eclipse. But I might forget or whatnot, please do remind people for me if you get the chance and note those near you in your calendars
Peace!
Yes, true !
At the end of the 90’s, I was on the top of a cliff in Etretat (France) when a solar eclipse happened, And I still remember clearly how the seagulls suddenly screamed when the shadow came. Really amazing !
Sure, it would be really interesting to record such a special moment !
Kevin
I left an audio recorder going through the eclipse of 2017 when I experienced totality. It was very disappointing. You can't really tell anything changed from the recording. I posted it with a legend for the segments as this freesound:

Thanks zimbot !
Maybe a bit disappointing , but still interesting !
In fact, one can find your eclipse recording and some others here :

Cheers !

Here is an 85% eclipse audio recording study in the Netherlands, March 2015.
Have fun listening

Sending a reminder for those in the US that you have an total solar eclipse in little over a week April 8.
You may want to take the weekend to find a nice spot and maybe find out a few cool viewing device and or experiments
Ponds, fields, chicken barn, crowd, bee hive, city, airport, get your field recorders and or phones out
Wishing you good weather and a fun time!

Sending one last reminder for the April 8 total eclipse, it will be a Monday going from Kerville to Ceveland. See Klankbleed's post above.
Problem is, the US is a big country, so if you aren't already within a reasonable drive from the path of totality, it can be extremely inconvenient to go there to experience it. Cities along the way that have airports are seeing accommodations and rental cars sold out. I don't really want to spend an entire day driving just to be able to experience totality again since I did it 7 years ago, but for anyone who hasn't done it yet, I would recommend at least considering it. In fact, even just typing this here makes me reconsider it again. I'm sure it's better to make it a road trip with friends (lots of things are better with friends, too bad I don't really have any). We don't really have rail facilities like Europe does. I suppose taking a bus somewhere might be a possibility, but they tend to stop at many places along the way and it would end up being a multi-day ordeal in most cases.
