I am working on a self-made (hopefully one day commercial) game that involves cars, for this i would need various car sounds such as:
engine idle sounds (10-20 second samples - so i can hear the engine idle curve frequency and chop them up into continous samples)
various car sounds of different cars: handbrake, clutch, door opening / closing, opening / closing hood & trunk, beeping signals..
material collision sounds: car crash sounds - cars colliding with each other or walls..
explosions - i found several explosions but they just dont sound hollywood-style - they are usually performed and recorded in echoing environments like desert, but i need them performed like in urban areas (no echoing).
anyone interested into the game can find more details here: http://www.gtatools.com/TDC/
isn't it the other way around?
in the desert there are no surfaces for sound to bounce off!
Only get echoes in canyons and city blocks!
Why don't you try sound dogs? you can even preview the sounds there before buying
Well, there is only one reflective surface in the desert
The only space with no reflective surfaces is a anechoic chamber. My school happens to have one of them and i can record there basically whenever i want. I'm planning a nother trip there in june so if anybody has got any stuff they'd like recorded... Lemme know! I cant bring a car in there though that i cannot.
Hi there!
There are car sounds on freesound: engines, claxon and probably other stuff.... Try the search engine, please.
Take care.
/edit:
There are various explosions too, some of them do not have that much echo... you could process the sound aswell to remove the tail, and adapt it to what u would like to hear.
You might need to edit a few together to get the required result - I think that's how they do it there
If you post a couple of recordings of some toys then I CAN help you..... please see my plea for help

I suggest you take several sounds..
1 explosion - try loading it into a sampler with distortion..... varying the distortion - small distortion on start of sound and wack it up on the tail
2- fraction of sec later add a flame whoosh? If you don't have a flame whoosh then try distorting a flapping flag
3 have you tried adding an animal roar..
sounding more interesting for sure!?
now....
about them toy sounds......
