Hi there freesounders - I've been looking for the sound of a manhole cover being opened. It should sound like really heavy metal being dragged over concrete, with a kind of ringing sound you get from round metal objects?

One of those sounds you think would be quite easy to find in a web search, but when you come to look there's nothing
It's for a bit in our new webgame where you need to check under manhole covers, in case you wondered ...

Slowly, without instruction, everyone turns off his or her lamp or flashlight and it goes dark — totally black. And silent. Not a sound. No dripping. Nothing. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! I have never experienced anything like it. You don't have to close your eyes. You don't have to tune anything out. One man's tomb is another man's refuge. I don't know how long we stay like that.

So it doesn't sound like much... still very weird.

Thanks Guys - Be careful out there lifting manhole covers - I don't want to be responsible for the first freesound related fatality :?

It might be too late for us to use in the game by the time you get round to it, but should make for a good noise either way ...

I've just put up three samples of manhole covers being removed, and for good measure, two samples of them being put back in place! I recorded them this evening, and must thank you for this challenge as I found a large unsavoury blockage about to cause major grief. Spent a happy hour unblocking the drains!
