well, now i'm semi with the recording crew i would love to join in. We'll need to make some sort of order otherwise it could get confusing. Maybe set out a list of names and go round that list (as we only have 4 or 5 people) about two or three times (getting upto 15 showers!) So could the Streetmeister into this numpty bumpty!

Ok so... in this thread there are two main games.

1-Shower in the shower

LG will upload the shower recording, then he will upload and pass the thing to someone else. I suggest LG starts a new thread and places the link here. When LG uploads the sound, he asks on that thread who's next and whoever wants to do it says "me!" does it, uploads the sound, and asks again on the thread. Right ?

2-Everyone is you (or something)

This game can be done at any time. You, whoever you are, record yourself doing something, (walking, running, washing the dishes, having sex) upload the sound, and then we all download it and do the same thing while listening to your sound.

This can be done also with things, like uploading the sound of a dishwasher and make us wash the dishes while listening to the machine sound.

This can be done also with sounds that are already uploaded if they fit.

Personally i will start recording for this when i have bought a pair of binaurals, which i think would of course be ideal for this kind of thing. aka. i will start the week after next week. But wont hesitate to try other peoples recordings as soon as they are available of course

plagasul - can you please explain the second task? As i do not get why you would do an activity with someone selse sound....am i missing something (even if i don't get the point, i will be happy to do it, more sounds for me and the website!)

Hmmm... i think you should read the long explanation i posted in the first page of this thread, there i try to explain or justify my interest in this subject, interesting are also the following conversation with LG and bebops, c'mon, give it a ride (yes, it's long, sorry)

The other night I went for a walk to try to get a sound for the "Everyone is you" game (as plagasul called it). But two things happened:

1.- I realized how difficult it is to avoid unwanted noises when recording in motion.
2.- I happened to record a cat fight.

I decided the walking sound was not valid for the game, because the noise of my own clothes was too present and I didn't like it at all. But I'm posting the cat fight sound because I like it. And maybe it can be used for the game, if you like.

Answering to Streety's question about this thing: For me, the idea would be to generate some kind of "virtual reality", cheating your sense of hearing and making it think it is in another place. It's just a game, and
for this to work you have to perform the same action the "recorder" did and, of course, you cannot listen to the sound before "playing". Yes, it's a bit silly...
But to be honest, the more I think about it, the less I like the idea, and I think it's just not going to work.

Anyway, here is the sound. If you want to try, you have to know I was walking in the street when I heard something like a baby crying. I turned around, searching for the source of the sound, and stood still watching the cats, until I had to move because of a car. That's it. I'll try to do better the next time.

I think we can do many displacements of sound meaning, just liek this one, not just doing the same thing that the other person did when recording the sound , like bebops mention.

EDIT: hmm missed a word: my cat went crazy when i played this. The whole point It was kind of scary to see the reaction, might do it again in safe conditions (not wearing the headphones)

Thanks for saying "congratulations!" guys! It's fun to be married although the wife did look at me in a funny way when she saw me sitting in the bathroom with the recording equipment recording the sound of a shower... hock:

Anyway, this is just to let you know that the Shower-In-The-Shower experiment is now officially started. I've played Plagasuls sound in my bathroom and re-recorded it and uploaded it. I also opened a new thread (as suggested by Plagasul) and another user can have a go at it. Bebops? Mortendaman? Others? Here we go!

Plagasul - i finally managed to read you mammoth post - 3 pages when i printe dit out! and now i sort of understand where the whole doing an action whilst listning to someone else doing it idea, wierd, but i get it.

As for Plagasul's cat fight but with humans...we could extend that. (I'm not proposing you make this happen) but say you knew of a fight going on (sketchy animal fights) record it and mix it with the humans and cat fights - getting a mix of animals fighting. I would propose that you play the sound along but i can imagine every freesounder walking everywhere with a cd player and recording equipment waiting for a fight between foxes or cows...not going to happen. Or how abouts you move it onto mundane things. Watching TV - different channels, different languages mixed together...

The possibilities with this whole shibang is endless, where can change, when can change, who, how, everything can change, everything is a factor...

the nurse kindly lent me her laptop and I'm writing this from a hospital bed. Nothing serious, not much pain now. The hard part was explaining the doctor why on earth I went into the shower, naked, with my neighbour's cat and a heap of electronic devices. How embarrassing! I could read in her eyes 'perverted', hope she wont report to my family... or the police!
