Have you ever wondered how a fine hand-crafted pen or pencil is made?
Watch this video.
The craftsman in the video is my father.
The video was filmed by my brother, Brad.
And I made the music.
A special thanks to the freesounders who gave their permission to use thier sounds for this project.
hi thatjeffcarter,
The moment I saw the film I thought about the great film-conducter / artist from my low-land Holland Bert Haanstra.
I love your film it's a beauty, but this is highschool.... university.... and more men!!!!!
He made the film Glas (glass) in 1958.
He was a specialist in composing picture and music to feel as one. Realy, Look at it.
It's a top film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLS7--ZLCoI
An other topper of bert haanstra:

Kome one guys, I'll wait for the next in this theme: "old craft trades"
klankbeeld  hallelujah
That's a nice video. Brilliant sound too... and the pen is just beautiful!
What wood is is? Looks like jatoba or ipé, but it's hard to see here.
IMO the music seems incongruous with the subject:
Its too discordant, (the out-of-tune whistling), and too modern for video about a traditional (woodworking) manufacturing process.
Maybe its the use of very similar out-of-tune whistling on the disturbing dystopian, (but hilarious), BBC animation monkey dust which makes me think it is unsuitable for constructive subject matter.
Stick on Vivaldi's four seasons - spring for a wider appeal , (If you can get a "public domain" copy).

To me it seems like a family video
if an advert IMO it should either be targeted at a specific demographic, (Christians* with disposable income ?),
or the widest possible audience. So avant-garde experimental music doesnt fit.

Give me Handel any day
[* I suppose that rules out the use of any tracks by Cradle of filth }
it was a family video of sorts. My brother made the film and asked me to contribute some music.
we liked it, and more importantly, dad liked it. so it was a gift to him.
That he can use it as an advert is just gravy.
and yeah, the music, won't appeal to everyone. (I might listen to something like cradle of filth but my dad wouldn't, for sure...) but it appeals to enough that it works for my dad.
Nice work on the video, and some very attractive pens as well!

my dad says that the wood for that pen was Tiger Narra.
Thanks,i enjoyed this!...your father has fine skills and you guys do a good job,i especially liked the close-ups....making a pen as fine as this must take precision and patience and i wished the film was longer to give more details and get that "some things can't be rushed"message across........nice family work!
