Hello everybody!
I just wanted to clear something up; if I use some sounds licenced Creative Commons Attribution Required or something along those lines, who should the sound be attributed? The creator or freesound.org? I'm slightly confused what is required. Please advise! Cheers
Yes, but like their user names? Real names? Websites? They don't seem to provide the exact attribution with the sound. Where do I find what they want to be mentioned by?
Please feed me with a teaspoon this once.
Well, if some contributor here only appears by nickname, with no real name or homepage mentioned, I guess they're fine being credited just by nickname.
You might add "from Freesound" as a clarifier (and a plug for the site ), I'm not the only copyc4t around for instance, but "copyc4t from Freesound" as I've been referred to is clearly me.
A good thing IMHO, if links are supported where you put the credits, would be to link the user profile here, e.g. http://www.freesound.org/people/MooiFlieks/
Again this would bring publicity and ease of reach both for the author and for Freesound, other than being the most exact attribution link legally.
Anyway, if you want to be sure, you can try contacting those authors and ask them if they have preferences; they might actually like you to link a blog or homepage of theirs you didn't know of.
"try contacting those authors and ask them if they have preferences" I have had a couple of users contact me for this very purpose. Although I'm perfectly content to go by my nom de plume used here, I respected their inquiry.
Yesterday, I was examining someone's musical composition posted herein under "Your work, made with Freesound(s)". The attribution information provided, at the composition's website, appeared to be (only) freesound.org. This is pretty insulting to all the individuals who generously post sounds for others to use * for free.
well, it's hard to legislate courtesy.
Case in point, consider http://freesound.org/forum/your-work-made-with-freesounds/33181/
I couldn't find any attribution information at either of the two links provided. Not saying there isn't ... I just didn't see any. Is it just me overlooking things?

Obviously, to the creator of the sound. Which is normally the guy who uploaded the sound in the first place.
