Hi Folks,
Merry Holidays from sunny Kansas City.
I just wanted to write you a brief but heartfelt thank you for your work in creating such cool sounds.
The project was to produce the unabridged version of A Christmas Carol. It took a couple weeks with not much sleep and much of my hard drive to record the text (I do all of the voices too), but I wanted to see if there could be more dynamic to it than just the standard cold read. So I came here to Freesound and found lots to work with.
I hope I attributed correctly, I read everyones' handle here and on another site during the credits. My engineering skills are none too perfect so in the mixdown some of the FX are not exactly in the right place and some is just missing (LogicPro ate my file twice to boot so I had re-re-remix. sooo many gigs).
The thing is for sale on bandcamp http://nathangranner.bandcamp.com/album/a-christmas-carol-new-unabridged and just got put up on itunes. I also was able to make about 13 3CD packages, hand printing them with block printing technique. That was fun.
Anyway, I hope you like it. I'd love to actually collaborate with you to make some really killer offering in the future, but in the interim please accept my deep appreciation for your work.
Happy Holidays,
Nathan Granner

Thanks for letting the community know and for providing credits!
Are you aware of the different licenses in use on freesound? ( see http://www.freesound.org/help/faq/ ) It appears that your user account has downloaded sounds from each of the licenses available here to uploaders.
According to http://www.freesound.org/people/ngranner/downloaded_sounds/ you downloaded 3 sounds that prohibit commercial use:
http://www.freesound.org/people/LondonSoundSurvey/sounds/98869/
http://www.freesound.org/people/Timbre/sounds/87462/
http://www.freesound.org/people/snarfdude/sounds/195586/
Unless you have already done so, I recommend that you check whether you in fact did use these sounds and get in contact with the authors, to get permission for use in your album (which I believe is commercial).
Also the following sounds might prohibit use in advertisement, which would probably prohibit using the remix in advertisements (I haven't read the full text of this legacy license in a while).
http://www.freesound.org/people/massi_1130/sounds/27706/
http://www.freesound.org/people/abel_K/sounds/68980/
http://www.freesound.org/people/dreamoutloud/sounds/90762/
This should be no problem unless you have plans to use this or let anybody use this in radio/video ads etc.
Warning: license term sledgehammer ahead (don't know what that sounds like)
As for attribution, a strict interpretation of CC-BY 3.0 and CC-BY-NC 3.0 (and I assume CC-Sampling+ too) would require you to not just include the author's name but also a link to their profile, the title of the sound and a link to the sound page. Unless of course the user has clarified more releaxed attribution requirements on the sound page or their user page.
I assume that most sound artists will be glad to see your efforts in providing credits. But I still recommend contacting all of them to make sure.
I like the reader! But it's on the left channel only in some tracks! (Track2, Track4) (So you definitely have to re-mix some again, which will give you an opportunity to replace sounds if need be)
Also some files are quieter than others (Fred's Party, which also seems to be right channel mostly).
Check your files with headphones and keep up the nice reading! I hope one of the freesounders whose sounds you used will request some of your voice uploaded to freesound. ^^
In any case, good luck with your projects!
Thank you SO MUCH for the heads up on all of this.
Yeah, I'm really chagrined to find a couple of these tracks in the recording. But, absolutely you are right on the mixing and remixing leveling.
I've done a lot of recording over my career and have seen the world change in a decade with piracy and all of that. I thought that I'd never be one that would use work and not credit and/or follow the licensing procedures.
But I gotta tell you, this project was really hard. I had no idea how time-consuming and challenging it would be to record and mix just the vocals. Then, the brilliant idea to give the piece depth by including SFX... For a shorter work, great, but a three hour novella with FX and music... and to cap it all off, trying to finish it in two weeks with a major performance schedule in time for the holidays... just impossible.
SO many details I just ran roughshod over. Sleep deprived, my software crashed twice, and thrice deleted half of the comp. I was a wreck. No wonder the levels are funky. I finally got a chance to listen to the thing on my way to family... sigh. Back to the drawing board.
So, I'm not going to delete the thing. I'll still have it to stream, but I have to pull the plug on the sales, regardless of the license usage. So in a few days it won't be "commercial," and will be a decent draft.
Maybe by next Christmas I'll have it!
Thank you once again for pointing out this stuff for me!
All the best,
ngranner
ps, I will contact folks.
