Hi. I've been developing an interactive radio station for freesound as my master thesis project at the MTG.
It's now online:
http://www.freesound.org/radio/
Also I wrote a post in the freesound blog with some explanation:
http://www.freesound.org/blog/?p=18
It would be great if you could give it a try, if you have any questions or comments post them here.
cheers

I'm playing with it now...but I don't really understand what its all about or the purpose.
now I just lost interest in it. didn't understand any of it...sorry you wanted feed back so I gave you some. but I promise i'll keep playing with it and give it a chance more so than just 10 mins. but for me the interface didn't make much sense (THAT'S ME NOW NOT EVERYONE ELSE)...and I PERSONALY don't bother trying to figure these sorts of things out. I go by instincts and to me this wasn't very instinctive (again THAT'S JUST ME).
looks cool though
very funny!
how the player works? do it play the last mix created, or random? is it influenced by chosen tags or by votes?
it would be ok to choose what to listen (and create a playlist linked to nicknames?)
in the chat window I can't scroll up, it always return to the last line (Firefox on xp)
the mix scheme in the player is different from editor, less clear
what about a volume control per sample? no fading, just constant volume
just some thoughts, it's a cool new idea
@zdendaf: in editor select a sample and "backspace" to delete it
The GUI looks great but the system doesn't work very musical, the limitations on twisting the sounds themselves are minimal and I lost interest after a few minutes.
Hi, thanks for trying. I understand that since everything in the editor is controlled by the mouse, the use of backspace to delete is not obvious. I've updated the help popup. Backspace also deletes your favorites in the player.
@cajo: The editor and the player do the same, only the visual layout is random because machine-generated patches don't have one. the player generates new patches all the time, but tries to include the less played user submitted patches. Your preferences influence the generation of new patches.
@Sampleconstruct: For me it's interesting to see how far you can reach without modifying the sounds, since the database is very large, you may find the ones that suit your needs.

Good for free! Was a little bit rough.

Hello. I've updated the radio evolution algorithm (in the player interface). Maybe it'll be better if I give some exlanation of how it works.
- The radio uses an evolutionary algorithm. It plays a collection of sample patches waiting for you to rate them.
- A portion of those patches come from the latest user contributions. The rest are machine generated
- 'radio' is the author name of the algorithm, so patches done by radio are machine generated.
- When the playlist is finished, the 'best' (or one of the best) patch is repeated (with a '!' in the name) while the algorithm creates the new generation behind the scenes
- The new generation is created from the best patches in the previous generation. Again, some recent user-submitted patches are added.
- In the creation of a new patch, your tag/sample preferences are taken into account if you have visited the radio in the last couple of days.

I've tried to use the Player (I didn't take a look at the Radio yet).
I chose a nickname and it just didn't stop loading. When it did it showed a small message saying 'HTTP Error'.
Should I try again tomorrow? Because this could be a timezone issue.
I wonder what will happen to this new feature.

apparently it got stuck yesterday, I had to restart it. I haven't found what was the problem yet, but it seems to work ok now.

I've updated the interface, player and editor are now tabs in a single panel. You can now edit any patch the radio is playing and save it as yours. The official url is now http://radio.freesound.org

NIce job, Gerard! and goodluck
At first I was baffled. As someone posted it was not intuitive for me but I played someone's piece and watched as it flowed thru the samples. An elegant idea.
Right now I'm listening to a slightly tweaked version of dronetest, by thanvannispen.

Would like to play around with this, unfortunately I can't see some rather essential controls on my 1024*768px screen: http://omploader.org/vdXc1
Hello. I have noticed this problem, will fix very soon. In the mean time maybe you can try hiding tabs, address bar etc. or going full screen with firefox (F11)
