what is "too many to list" ?
you know if you go to your account and click on "sounds downloaded by mega87" you can see all your recent downloads from this website, it is very much appreciated if you give credit, but if you did really use too many sounds and it will just take you forever then don't worry about it, most people don't even take the chance to make a thread on this site saying thank you, they just use it and leave.
What is, asks Zoidberg? Ahem.
Some of the licenses that sounds are released under on Freesound (specifically, Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution-NonCommercial) require attribution on derived works. This means that if you create a derivative work using material (e.g. Freesounds) released under such a license, such as your song, you are legally required to give credit to the authors of those sounds.
For example:
Drums from http://freesound.org/people/randomuser/sounds/0000000/, intro contains elements of http://freesound.org/people/otheruser/sounds/0000000/, wobble board solo from http://freesound.org/people/rolfharris/sounds/0000000/ (...etc)
This is the reason for Jeff’s comment. As Kodack points out, while it is a legal requirement it is very difficult to police and many people don’t bother, but it is a requirement nonetheless.
This is why I release my original sounds as public domain, because I honestly don’t care about being attributed and sometimes it’s more trouble than it’s worth both for me and for anyone who might want to use my sounds — the fact that they want to is enough of a compliment for me. Of course, if you only used public domain (CC0) sounds in the first place, no problem!
while it is technically a crime, it's not a big one, lets face it, everyone who posts sounds on this site KNOWS peoples are going to use it for free without any given credit (maybe a few times if they're lucky) so the uploaders know exactly what they're getting into, but for let's say filmmakers for example, their job is to make profit or else they lose a hefty amount of money, most people here on freesound are just enthusiasts who want to help people out
thankyou kodack, you are right, not many people say thankyou, this is my first post in this sub forum.... I dont make money from my music and I bet there are a million people who have used audio from this site and have never posted to say thankyou, what a pointless witch hunt bearing no logic...

Why are you blaming Jeff? Blame me if anyone, I explained the reasons for his comment.
Even given my feelings about the rigmarole of requesting and expecting attribution not being worth it for samples (complete tracks being a different matter) other people may have different opinions, which is why they pick some other terms on which to make their sounds available. However useful or otherwise I might consider that to be, I feel duty bound to state the facts.
If you felt that was a personal criticism I can’t imagine why, but I apologise regardless.
guys,
the way I see it the problem of not giving credit is NOT about ego, fame or whatever. The problem is that other people out there miss the oportunity to discover and use these (or other) samples on this site. So please at least credit freesound.org! My two cents

whoa.
that was a bit more than I expected.
I admit- when I first started making music and using sounds from the Freesound collection, I wasn't the best about crediting my source material. But I've gotten better.
It's the honest thing to do.
And it's not really that difficult.
I think that would be cruelty to animals...
In case anyone was wondering, nothing I said to the OP was intended to say “don’t bother crediting” — I was just explaining that while I don’t particularly care about being credited for sounds, people should do the honest and polite thing by those who do ask for attribution, per Jeff’s comment.
If that’s really enough to scare contributors away I’m not sure what to do. I just don’t know what rubs people up the wrong way about such a simple request.

I wouldn't worry about it mate. I'm seeing an element of trolling here.
