Recorded today 5-29-23 (Memorial Day USA). This is a 90 minute raw uncut zoom H1n recording. The recorder was pointed directly across the St. Marys River ( Also Spelled St. Mary's too ) on the shoreline, which creates some really cool sounds when birds start cruising the shore and fly right above the mic.
This starts at 5:15am (official sunrise is 6:14am) and ends at 6:45am.
A few cool things that I have never witnessed, a large flock of Canadian geese fly in and land off in the distance. You'll hear this about 6 minutes in. 2 minutes later another large flock lands in-between the 1st flock and the Zoom H1n recorder. The 2 flocks maybe dozen each stay about 30 or 40 feet away from each other for about an hour. Around the 70 minute mark, the lead goose from each flock swim at each. It looked like they were playing a game of chicken. The lead goose from the flock closer to the mic must of lost the challenge, cause after the charge, he gonks at his group & they all fly off at once.
The track also has swollows, mallard ducks, seagulls, woodpeckers & chirping bird I couldn't make out the species of directly above the mic in the tree growing there at the shoreline.
The St. Mary's River connects Lake Superior to Lake Huron and is also the international border between the USA & Canada. Neebish Island sits in the middle of this river. Northbound freighters use the shipping channel on the farside of Island and Southbound uses the channel which is on the side where this recording was made. Thankfully not a single southbound freighter came through for the entire morning. You might be able to hear a little bit of the northbound freighters 2 miles away on the other side of the Island.
