A recording of male & female tawny owls having an encounter. Recorded at around 4:30 in the morning in the UK, just before the dawn chorus commenced - I believe the birds were in some trees about 30m away at their closest approach. Maybe best heard using headphones, in order to hear the quieter ambient sounds. I'm surprised how sensitive the setup is - even the clock in the room is audible through the glass!
Recorded using a Shure 515SD for left channel, and Electro-Voice RE27 N/D on the right (Still waiting to get another!) and stuck out of the windows about 2.5m apart. As the Shure has around 10dB lower output I needed more gain leading to more noise present on the left channel. No processing at all, as it was recorded. Mics feeding a home-made low noise pre-amp, in turn feeding a Steinberg UR22mkII USB interface.
