With hawkers, traffic, horns, trams - Calcutta is a noisy city. I spent one-minute on College Street (Saturday 16th March 2013 around 5 pm) with my Edirol R09HR where there is a market for books, books and books - mostly school and college text books but many fiction or non-fiction too. Hundreds of book stores on the streets, not to speak of the larger ones in proper stores. The book hawkers pester you to buy books, even if you don't intend to. There are many colleges and schools in the vicinity and it is a part of the heritage quarters of the city. I recorded on the stretch of road between the famous Presidency College (produced quite a few Nobel laureates) and Coffee House walking. There is a poor flute seller too who was trying to sell his bamboo flutes in the din. Minimal editing on Audacity. Some amplification and some compression.
