The last month of the Bengali calendar Chaitra is the time when all the shopkeepers in Calcutta offer a big discount to their wares - mostly clothes - so that they can stock up afresh in the new year. This is called the Chaitra sale. The hawkers near Gariahat in South of Calcutta are famous for being loud and they shout to attract attention. The last day usually attracts the most frenzied buying and selling. This year the last day was also a Sunday. The cacophony hit through the roof. I recorded the sound with the built-in microphone of my Edirol R09HR
