I was walking in our neighbourhood in Calcutta, India one fine evening recently when I suddenly heard this lovely tune after turning a corner. It's inspired by an old Bollywood hit but the man is really playing his own interpretation rather than just an exact copy of the original. It's a very soulful number. Those who know Bollywood songs would perhaps recognise it as "O Sathi Re". The flautist is a poor old man with a bandana on his head. He was playing a handmade, crude bamboo flute. He had a small sling bag full of similar flutes. He sells flutes for a living. I am glad I had the recorder ready.
It was recorded with an Edirol R09HR and its internal stereo microphones.
