Walking down the Tracks to my makeshift shooting range, there was a huge metal pylon, with a Woodpecker enthusiastically hammering away. Has this always been a thing? Or are they slowly losing their minds?

No, I don't think they're loosing their mind. As far as i know, they use this kind of hammering to sonically mark their territory. So, louder is better ! ;-)
