My interest in an "avant-garde" form of aural presentation was awakened years ago when, in 1970, I heard the track REVOLUTION 9 on the Beatles White album for the first time. I've always had a thing for the path less chosen as far as my musical tastes, but this was something I had never even imagined. For a few years I could not listen to the entire track, as my mind conjured up images I'd not experienced listening to other forms of recorded entertainment, and wasn't sure how I was to perceive and process them.
If you have never heard REVOLUTION 9, and this art form peaks your interest, do yourself a favor and listen to it. All the way through.
The tracks in this pack have been created based on my personal realization that different, somewhat unusual sounds can lead your mind off in tangents, leading you to let your imagination wander. Painting your own mental pictures of the sounds your mind is processing. Developing a "story".
This process is enhanced if all other stimuli are reduced or eliminated. A good quality pair of noise-reducing headphones will work if you cannot find a quiet room, although some fidelity of the track may be sacrificed. Of course, either way, the better the headphones, the better the sound
Your favorite, most comfortable recliner, sofa, chair, bed, bean bag, etc. is recommended.
Also recommended, either a very dark or blacked-out room (if you're comfortable with that), or a blindfold.
This is to reduce or eliminate visual stimuli.
The final suggestion is to prepare your mind. This can be done with meditation. Please note here that I do not meditate, so I'm not familiar with how your mind feels as a result. I've heard good things, though.
Just a suggestion.
I prefer to consume cannabis (it is legal in my area for recreational usage), hence the name STONERscape. I do not promote the use of these substances if you are underage, if you believe that it is morally wrong, if you have never tried them, or it is illegal in your area. But if you are of age and can do so legally, then smoke up, get comfortable, and give a listen.
Of course, you can use these tracks as you want, in whole or in part. All I ask is that you add Mad Gravity Studio to your work as a contributor if your work is posted. If you simply enjoy using them as I've described, then please share them with others and tell them about Mad Gravity Studio at https://freesound.org/home/sounds/manage/published/. Copy the URL and send it out. I'd love to get feedback, and maybe hear what you can do with them.
I continue to work on other pieces, and completed versions of them will be put up either here or on the upcoming MGSTUDIO.ORG website (free, w/donations appreciated).
Please make an old guy happy today, okay?
