I've spent most of my life pursuing various forms of geek expressionism and gonzo engineering, most visibly in the form of technomadic adventures. In 1983, I built a computerized recumbent bicycle and started traveling full-time... writing books and articles about the expedition and supporting technologies. This was arguably the first instance of blogging, as well as mobile computing (writing using a binary handlebar chord keyboard underway).
The bike (BEHEMOTH) is long-since retired, and is now in the permanent collection of the Computer History Museum. My current project is converting a 44-foot steel sailboat (Nomadness) into something akin to the Starship Enterprise.
I found Freesound.org while searching for sounds to augment a free podcast of my tales from the road, beginning with the long-out-of-print Computing Across America. I'm truly delighted to find this community, and I look forward to contributing as well as using interesting sounds (good field recording gear and a full audio production studio on the boat).
