HOW I DID IT:
This was created using a Neewer NW-700 condenser mic, routing it into a Peavey RQ2310 mixing console, then sending the signal through the console's Effects Send 1 circuit out into an Acer AspireOne netbook that I use as an effects rack, then back into the console's Return 1 circuit, then sent out through the console's Mains into a Linux platform running KXStudio (http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/) DE version of Ubuntu 14.04 (http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/) and captured using Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org/download/linux/).
The Acer AspireOne is running the 32-bit version of KXStudio. The effects stack itself was made with two JACK Rack (http://jack-rack.sourceforge.net/) applications running on the netbook simultaneously, patching the signal (using the Catia Patchbay Utility, which is integral to KXStudio) from the first JACK Rack to the second, then through the netbook's Playback circuit and into the console's Return circuit as described.
JACK Rack 1 FX plugins: guitarix_distortion -> DJ EQ (mono) -> Chorus 2 (based on CSound orchestra by Sean Costello) -> MVerb -> Echo Delay Line (Maximum Delay 60s) -> Simple Amplifier.
JACK Rack 2 plugins: zita-reverb -> Stereo reverb -> Stereo width -> ZynEQ 10 Parametric Bands.
The microphone was 2 feet away from my face as I recorded my wife talking on the phone, while I would from time to time hum with my lips closely together. (If you undertake to make your own drone recording, then be sure to have the pop filter in place, just in case.)
It's a bit light on the bass-end because I thought that users could always add more bass to their taste to suit their purposes, if they wanted; IMHO, it's easier (and sounds better) to add bass to a sound lacking low-end than it is to try to reduce too much bass.
Enjoy!
