This is the sound of my Sony Vaio's cooling fan. Just my Logitech USB mic turned around and pointed directly back at the computer, nothing else happening in the room. This original sound is on Freesound under the title "Computer cooling fan." Then I ran it through Audacity. The basic track got a good dose of GVerb. This was the first of three tracks, and I gave it about 7/8s of full gain. Then I lowered the pitch almost all the way to the bottom and added that as a second track. I turned the gain up to the max on this track. Then I took another copy and shifted the pitch almost all the way up to give it a touch of electrical buzz, and added it as the third track, with the gain turned down a bit compared to the other two. The result is a lowly computer cooling fan pumped up until it becomes a big industrial fan or turbine.

Really...REALLY good fan sound. Excellent work. Also very good description for those of us that like to reproduce sound effects.
