I am building a timber-frame arbor from 6"x6" and 6"x8" juniper timbers using traditional techniques. I did a test-fit of one of the mortise & tenon joints for one of the braces and noticed that it made an interesting sound, so I grabbed my binaural setup and did some recording. Sound Professionals binaural mic on a fake head into Sony PCM-M10 recorder.
A 7 minute clip of me trying to get the tenon to come out of the mortise. When I pull/push it hard, the entire 8 foot beam lifts up and falls back down, making a thud. At about 3:30 I get some small pieces of wood to use as leverage, but they don't really help.
