I am building a timber-frame arbor from 6"x6" and 6"x8" juniper timbers using traditional techniques. I did a test-fit of one of the mortise & tenon joints for one of the braces and noticed that it made an interesting sound, so I grabbed my binaural setup and did some recording. Sound Professionals binaural mic on a fake head into Sony PCM-M10 recorder.
Some rapid small movements.
At 1:12 I am able to pop the tenon out of the mortise using the crowbar.
Then I move the brace around on the beam - first dropping it a small distance, then sliding it back and forth on the beam, then rotating it. Both the brace and the beam are 6"x8" so they are quite heavy.
