Close up recording of hoverflies. A pair of tiny Primo EM258s were attached to the end of a selfie stick and stealthily brought as close as possible to hoverflies. Occasionally, as shown in photo, they would alight on the mics or selfie stick.
Two types of buzzing are heard: the lower pitched buzz (around 230 Hz) is produced when they are in flight; the higher-pitched buzz (around 350 Hz) is produced when they are resting on a leaf (or selfie stick).
Recorded in Vaucluse in Provence, France in mid-November.
