This is a woodpecker banging on metal at the top of a chimney, recorded at the fireplace using the built-in mics of a Zoom H4. Other sound coming through the chimney could include nearby freeway traffic or other outdoor activity. Baseline noise comes mostly from a 2-drive RAID NAS with a (subjectively) loud fan on the other side of the room. Processed in Audition just to trim off the ends, remove one unexplained close-to-mic sound, and normalize.
I don't know what kind of woodpecker it is, but I believe it is fairly small. This was recorded in Puyallup, WA, US. This pecking loudly on metal behavior is not uncommon in this area, especially in Spring.
