Inner city canal guides tour in 's-Hertogenbosch, called Venice of the North.
Translated guides text;
First boat:
#0:12 Are you a carnival club?
Last week here on the downtown river we had 85 carnival brass bands.
In fact, by association “never home in time” every year is a sailing stage.
So I heard carnival music all day last week and was completely deaf in the evening.
I sailed there from nine o'clock in the morning until ten past six in the evening with those groups on a down. From the pick-up point to the bridge of the inner harbor where the judges stood. Then ten minutes of music and back to the embarkation point for the next carnival club of musicians.
Second boat;
#3:18 Along the way we see boxes hanging under the vaults of the river and those are bat nesting boxes.
On the left side we see the back entrance to the mint, the mint house. This is because the city used to have its own mint and this is the building where the mint was minted. Here was the back entrance where the mint master lived. And at this stone steps to the water they could easily cool the hot minted coins.
#3:52 On the right side, that big building is the “Marienburg.” That is a convent built in 1898. Here lived mostly nuns engaged in education.
Third boat;
#7:09 And you know coins used to always have a name. In 's-Hertogenbosch they had one coin and it was called the “negenmanneke” (little nine man) and the other the “oortje” (small ear).
Do you know the expression; spend with last “ear”? So that means spend your last money.
And slowly it becomes quieter over the water again.
