Egyptian Goose and Common Buzzard in background. Ambiance of an afternoon polder at the end of the Dutch winter.
The first day of the year that shows that spring is coming. Even though it's terribly cold, I have to go outside. I went looking for a sheltered spot with a lot of variation in nature.
The Dutch polder with some farms in front is large. On the left is the village of Hedikhuizen with its farms. Right behind the dike is a lake called 'de Haarsteegse wiel'. It is indeed a wheel. This small lake was created after a dike breach in earlier times. At the place where the water washed into the polder, an enormous vortex was created that deeply eroded the ground.
Around this lake there are trees and shrubs where many birds have their favourite winter spot.
