An early spring day in a small town in southern Illinois with birds very busy calling out, setting up their territories, and attracting mates. But for me, the recordist, this recording was made just about 60 feet from a very busy park with lots of swing sets. The old swing sets, which make that lovely " creak " sound when in use by a young kid; OR, an older kid, say, in his 60s. I don't know if the sound of a creaking swing made it onto that gold plate of typical Earth sounds on either of our Voyagers which are by now billions of miles from here, but, I hope they did.
Listening to this recording of the distant sounds of a park brings me back to my childhood in another place, very far away from here. A place, that existed for me decades ago but listening to this recording today, I am transported to my youth when things seemed, just a lot nicer.
