This sequences of notes at a slow, march pace has been synthesized using a freeware program known as Kangas Sound Editor (http://www.kangasound.com/ ).
The sound consists of a sequence of minor triads (giving it a melancholy quality) built using just-intonation, with each triad consisting of a base note, a second note at a frequency ratio of 6/5 (a minor third up) from the base note, and a third note at a frequency ratio of 5/4 (a major third up) from the second note.
A particular feature of this sound is the use of a series of different waveforms. Starting with sine waves, pulse waves are used 3 seconds into the sound, sawtooth waves from 6 seconds, square waves from 9 seconds, and finally triangle waves from 12 seconds. The currently released Kangas Sound Editor software (4.2.0) constructs sounds only from sinusoidal waves - the other wave types have been done using a development version of the software.
