Kole Basava in Kannada and Gangireddu in Telugu is a decorated ox ("basava" in Kannada). Traditionally, men from the Jangam tribe would receive their oxen from famers when the animals are old and cannot be used for farming. The men, known as "gangireddollu" in Telugu, would then decorate these oxen with fabrics with patchwork and ornaments, play "nadaswaram", a double reed oboe-like woodwind instrument, and walk them to go from door to door asking for offerings, mostly used clothes, food and money. People would ask the ox for blessings after offering. A gangireddollu would take care of animal until its death after which he would sell it to a leatherworker for leather-making.
