Halfway through August, I got the idea to record another ambience sound effect on September 2nd, one month after my last sound effect (see link at the bottom). After tonight, I'm planning on recording at least 10 minutes on the 2nd (or 3rd) of each month, and see how the ambience changes.
Same as last month, only this time, recorded the front yard. The computer was set up in a different room.
Recorded at 48kHz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of Behringer C-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10dB." The switch was set in the "flat" position, and will continue to be throughout this series. Additionally, a 24dB/oct low-cut applied in Pro-Tools at ??Hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle.
Recorded just past midnight on Sept 3rd, 2013 near Atlanta. cicadas, crickets, planes, trains, and automobiles. (the lions, tigers, and bears were on break this week.)
There is a piercing chorus of insects throughout this recording. They rest right around 6kHz, and can be attenuated with a notch filter quite nicely.
I'd be interested to hear how you're using these recordings! Leave a message in the comments!

This sound was used in my treatment of the Buster Keaton silent movie, "The General".

Thanks. Sounds great.
I'll be using it in an ambient song I'm currently working on :)
