As I rounded the bend in the gravel road, the woods opened out and I found myself on an overlook above a beautiful tree-studded valley with a stream winding through the grass. As the valley grew darker, most of the birds stopped singing. Distant thrushes were still audible, perhaps from another meadow where the top of the sun was still visible above the hills.
Recorded on Olympus LS-10 and my binaural rig: a set of paired omnidirectional mics with preamp sold by Church Audio, worn over my ears in a homemade windscreen that resembles a pair of earmuffs.
Recording date: July 15, 2013, early evening.
Recording location: A rural area in Greenbriar County, WV.
