This is a purely synthetic, single cricket "chirp" I created in Cool Edit Pro after analyzing a recording of a real one, trying to get it to sound the same. It is the non-raspy version of the chirp. This goes hand-in-hand with the more raspy version, CricketChirpSyntheticWithRasp. If you want to hear the sound I was basing it on, listen to JunePM_CricketAndAspens, but beware -- it is rather long (big file). To create a realistic cricket sound, you could use this in a varying period of repetition with occasional instances of the raspy version thrown in if desired.

That's great.
And hey, IchabodTodd, I enjoyed your music video, though it wasn't until I saw the related links on YouTube that I realized it was a parody of something (obviously I had never heard the "roar" song). I never quite got what the cricket chirp had to do with your song, but perhaps that's part of the parody.
By the way, there are also some pretty clean clips in this same pack of real recordings of a real cricket. If anybody cares. :-)
I always enjoy knowing how these sounds get used out there, so thanks for commenting.
