Very true indeed... but maybe it's more inviteing?
Well anyway. a lot of people are putting their request in the shoutbox. but those mesages useually don't last very long/ long enough.
Sample request feature would be really useful.
Also maybe a sampleproduction offer feature -- Way to let others know that you can make specific samples if anyone needs them?
Also/Or the forum should have more categories like:
* Sound production discussion
* Sample requests
* Sample offers
* Music sharing (where you can give links to songs/works you have made with samples available here)
* General discussion

Dunno, this could all be done on a forum...

I'm very much against making too many subforums as it removes the focus of the users around too much. Having 7 different forums when only a few people really use all of them is conceptualy really bad. Once the amount of people actualy using the forum(s) is a bit larger, I'll split up.

I would like to see a Group feature.
Anybody can start a Group (like "Animal Sounds") and recollect samples in freesound that belong to that group (animal sounds samples). This would be different to adding tags, since the group would be publicly available and it could have more than one moderator. This makes Freesound a step closer to the folksonomy principle, since Groups would be a very nice way to sharing tags.
I would also think it would be nice to be able to organize faster the samples by tagging more than a few at once.
Although this might mean a major change in the interface. But maybe a simple checkbox next to each sample + a little input text box saying tag with... in the search/browse page could do the trick.
I think that Groups will not be a great addition... it will either just make things a unclear for people that are adding sounds.
If people just tags and describe their sounds well, anybody can find it. That should be enough.
folksonomys tend to screw up....

For lack of a better word, I'd be interested in a tag which would denote a 'pure' field recording. I'm a sound editor/designer for film, and would love a forum for field recordings could be exchanged; field recordings which are essential true to when they were recorded.
This is not to disparage inventive manipulations of real world sounds, that is truly a wonderful art. But it would be nice to have a way to search for only those sounds which have been taken beyond real worldliness(again for lack of a better word)
It would be great if sound archivists from around the world could exchange/share thier collections. If I'm posting a film in the US and need sounds of a marche in Paris or Bombay, I would have somewhere to find such a sound. This would be such a wonderful alternative to the tired(only hyperbole) CD collections.
The field recording tag brings up a huge variety of sounds, it would be great to be able to limit only unadulterated field recordings.
Curious to hear ideas on this.

I agree with you. I'm in the same situation. For better or worse, it's really up to the person uploading the sound to be accurate in their use of tags, but perhaps we can encourage a standard that says "Field Recording" means "unadulterated field recording", or as you suggest add a "Purist" tag. Of course we would need a complimentary tag that implies a sound may have been recorded in the field but was then manipulated. Any suggestions?
Perhaps we could use an "etiquette" page.

a good idea would be to start a thread here about tagging. I was thinking myself it would be nice if there were more active tag-users (like there are in Flickr).
For a stupid example: "spoken-word-a" "spoken-word-b" etc and have recordings of people saying "a" or "b"
Likewise a pure field-recording tag could be introduced. But this isn't something I should force but should be started by YOU guys. Invent a new tag, start a thread about it, use it, distribute the knowledge that such a tag exists. I'd be willing to open up a forum just for tagging where the subject could be the tag used.

I'm glad there are others who feel as I do. I'm collecting some sounds while in Paris and hope to post them soon. I will do so with the appropriate tag. Perhaps we could arrive at a consensus for a tag ex. unadulterated, purist etc. I'm not entirely happy with those two but for lack of something better would settle for one of them. Any other suggestions and input is greatly appreciated.

I do not know if someone posted this feature request before - The ability to mix multiple audio files.
This feature is already implemented in some fashion on the website.
For example, searching for "noise" gives me a list of files, each of them with a play button. All I need to do is play and loop multiple files at the same time. Given the proper files, I might be able to create environments like "dolphins talking to each other during NASCAR"
Feature request for a section where a user can drop multiple files onto a 'mixer' which plays them. Instead of streaming all the files ( which is really big wastage of bandwidth), the server could mix them together and stream/download the resulting file.
I would really enjoy a little bar-locator who tells me where am i, in the wave form of the sample on previews .
Just like on any other Audio/Video player on the net (soundcloud for example or Youtube or ...).
the vertical line tell us where we are. A color code says how much is buffered.
And even better, be able to stream (going later in the sample, come back, pause...). A web-player indeed !
I guess that isn't too difficlt. I understood Bram is not a web ddesigner. But could that be possible ?
thanx guys for all that great work

This is fantastic !!
How do i use it ?
I tried to find my way to that graal, but ... Is it a future feature ? Do i need to enable some sort of fonction ? Do I need to be a knight of the Round Table ?
Thanks a lot.
