Hello fellow Freesounders, I've uploaded my first Dare (#1 contribution to SoundCloud and I'd like to introduce myself.
My name is Beth. I am 24 years old, and I live in New Jersey (U.S.) I've been writing songs and recording sounds since age 12. Nowadays I do these things mostly as a personal hobby, but I have professional training and experience in these arts and I'd like to try and keep my skills sharp. If anyone wants to hear some things I've done, including my Dare 18, check my SoundCloud:
https://soundcloud.com/ubikphonik
Equipment:
- Macbook 10.5.8
- Mbox 2 Mini
- Pro Tools 9
- Lots of Plug-ins
- Tascam MK II portable stereo recorder
- Dynamic, condenser, and contact microphones
- 12 channel 4 bus Yamaha mixer
- Mackie monitors
- Fender tube amp
- Crate bass amp
- A whole bunch of instruments (Washburn acoustic guitar, old resonator guitar, Gretsch Jet Jr. bass, cheap old drumset, Korg Microsampler and Monotron, Oscar Schmidt autoharp, Fender mandolin, cheap ukulele, and more)
HEY!! I'll try this on for size to force myself to learn and create. I have a degree in music (brass player, mainly F Horn) and performed with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps from 2001 to 2004 on Mellophone. A few years ago I had a major life change and started exploring myself...where my life was going and what I wanted to do, because at that point, I was clueless. Now, I'm turning 30 on March 15th and I think I know a bit more about myself and what I want to do. I've been involved with theatre and am now BACK in school for Audio Engineering. I'm very interested in sound effect design and creating soundscapes (would eventually love to become a sound designer for a software company). But anyway, until I "grow up," I'm still playing and exploring. If you care to know, right now my equipment isn't the best ever...As for recording, I simply use my iPhone or a cheapo desktop microphone. I'll eventually start getting real equipment when I know more about it and am able to form a real opinion about what to use, but until then, this works for me. I have a computer with protools and some other programs on it, but I have not touched it...so for the meantime, I use Magix Music Maker to plug in, mix, and alter sounds that I'm working on. Love listening to everything on this site, you all are a huge inspiration, and I look forward to working on these little dare projects.

Welcome sonidor, zagi2, UbikPhonik and Otterbahn!
Very cool descriptions and very interesting backgrounds.
Looking forward to hearing all your works!
(I also think this "introduction" has been one of the best threads on the dare subforum - thanks for putting it up, AlienXXX)
Thanks 'Specky'
I think I am also goint to ask people to re-visit their descriptions and update them.
I for one have purchased some gear and software and learned quite a bit since I posted my intro here. - I am sure the same is true for most other Freesounders.
After reading alot of these descriptions, I've noticed that almost all of you are in you mid 30's, and don't get me wrong, ther's nothing wrong with that, I just feel kind of strange saying what I'm about to say...
I guess you can say I'm the youngster in the group. Nobody has posted on this forum for a while, so I'm going to see if anybody else, who's new or wants to update there old post, wants to write here.
Well... here' go's...
I'm 14. I don't have much music experience (yet), but o hope to be a Composer for movies or an Independant artist that just creates his own music. I'm also extremely interested in computer music.
As for equipment, I don't have much to say. I have a somewhat higherquality microphone called BLUE SNOWBALL something. (I think.) Other than that, I use Audacity and on occasion, Adobe soundbooth (for editing and awsome soundeffects.) I also play the piano, guitar, and hopefully(someday) the violin. That's about it! Hope this might restart thr forum!
Oh! One quick thing: If you're reading this, I have two other forums open, both with no reply. I stated a few questions and I really need them anwered. So, if you could, please check out (and hopefully answer) my realativly short questions onm those Forums. I'm saying this on every post I make so I can raise awairness, but nobody seems to notice. So, please, answer my questions. The name of the Forums are as Follows: "Some One! Please Answer MY Questions!!!" and "(Hidden field recaptcha_challenge_field) This field is required?" They are both listed under the "Bug Reports, Errors, and Feature Requests" section.
THANKS A MILLION,
Spoonandlessspoons. (I refuse to put my real name. My username will have to do.)
Thankyou so much! I thought for a little while I was going to be the only one on this forum. I don't mean to be rude, and I certainlt hope i don't come off that way, but I have a question. I noticed how fast you replied to my last post and I wondered, are you part of freesound? What I mean is, some one high up, a devoloper or designer, something like that. Or just a really "on the ball" user who is just really inviled. Both are fine, infact, I would lioke to contribute to freesound as much as I can. I was just wondering.

For you, think of him as the Tom (from myspace) of freesound. He's everywhere and he's with everyone. He's AlienXXX. You're gonna see him often.

Of course, there are no hard and fast rules, but what I'm trying to say is don't let people's judgments sway your flow. Do what you like and do it the best per your judgment. Then gauge what people are saying of it, learn it and use it the next time.
There's a quote my friend once told me: Don't let the perfect plan be the death of a good plan. With music (any art, in fact) that's a very good quote to bear in mind.
Good luck to you, and I look forward to your compositions!
Hey!
I've just initiated Dare 22: "img2snd" and it feels right to say something about myself.
I was born in 1991 in the capital city of... alright, allright! Shorter should it be said. Know I.
I'm a young and passionate musician form Warsaw, Poland. I'm a vocalist, electronic music producer, composer, songwriter and beatboxer.
I'm also a radical user of GNU/Linux and everything that's GPL'd or CC'd.
I want to support the OpenSource community and I have a goal to go to the very top of the music stage, and taking FLOSS with me to prove or deliver it capable of top-quality production.
Soon I'll be releasing an album with songs I perform to electronic music. I think it's a bit insane - as me, but also very from the hart. I'll let you know when it's out.
I'm also recording Audiobooks and making 3D animations with Blender.
It's good to be here, on Freesound.
Hi, I work in adult entertainment and have a very well known voice on the net among ones that are fans of erotic audio. From my submissions of erotic audios at Literotica, Lushstories, and my own sites ClimaxConnection and Sexychatwithsharon, I have done hundreds of audios in the last few years.
I make my living with my voice and writing for several adult websites, but enjoy making audios for the enjoyment of my fans and post them for free. I also do custom audios ones order from finding me on those sites, through my job as an erotic phone entertainer, or though my site Eroticaudiorecordings.
I am generous with my time and frequently record stories of my fans they post themselves on the above mentioned sites. Feel free to contact me. sharon@climaxconnection.com
Yes, welcome to all.
Work has been taking an even heavier toll that usual, so I have been less active on Freesound than I would like.
I would like to say welcome to all the people who have posted here since my last comment:
izzy500666
unfa - about time you posted on this thread, heh?
SexySharon
I also remind you that there are 3 dares currently open:
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/33903/
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/34230/
http://www.freesound.org/forum/dare-the-community/34158/
So if you are a 'daring' freesounder... What are you waiting for ?
Also, the point of us introducing ourselves here in this thread is to encourage contact and collaboration between freesounders. Maybe you find that someone also uses Ableton Live and you can collaborate and exchange files... Maybe you find that someone here has a particular synth and you ask them for some samples? Maybe someone else who is posting similar sounds to your own... or even better, the kind of sounds you need for your project...
The list is endless, so talk to each other , people !
not on this thread, though... Keep this one for introductions and the occasional rambling
Hello all. First let me say thank you to all you creative peoples. Since I discovered freesound I have been greatly inspired by the generosity of people on this site for providing such great sounds for me to play with while I was still learning, the great tips, techniques and tools that you share and the interesting and supportive community. I have been a freesounder for a while and never introduced myself so . . .
I would describe myself as an enthusiastic hobbyist with very little technical education but a good ear and imagination. I like all sorts of music - electronic, metal, hip-hop, folk, contemporary classic. Really anything that moves me or makes me move. Interested in sound in general and the effects it has on the human body/human mind!
I'm old enough to miss vinyl but young enough to enjoy a moshpit
I tinker on the guitar, can get by with a bass and will turn anything into a bongo drum.
I discovered Acid when I was 16 (Haha! The DAW you guys ) which opened my eyes to digital music.
My tools are simple - my keyboard and samplitude (and many vst), also some freeware like Audaacity and Audiopaint. I love creating and learning and I am open to collaborations.
Hello everyone, I am almost 15, live in the united states, don't have any accent, have two mics a built in computer mic and the audacity recorder, I really enjoy sci-fi and action movies like "Star Wars" and "Saving Private Ryan", I am a Christian, I do voice acting for people like "TigerNDV(Tiger Studios)" and "CalebBrixProductions" from YouTube. Link to TigerNDV(Tiger Studios): http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI1kRBFUheHrB71y5LkdzDw. Link to CalebBrixProductions: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCagrOT587MxkNt64nOirQDg. I am pretty good with technology, I am the brother of "CalebBrixProductions", I spend most of my time on Facebook, Freesound, and the clone-wars-roleplay.wikia (My user name is the same) and here is the link to my profile on the wikia and a page I created (What my name would be if I was a Clone Trooper, also I created the design of the helmets): My Profile http://clone-wars-roleplay.wikia.com/wiki/User:18hiltc and My page http://clone-wars-roleplay.wikia.com/wiki/Swift(Cpt.Swift)
Better late than never and I hope you guys enjoy my info.
I prefer not to give my name online so you can either call me callam or aspie, as that is what I go by online. I have studied music for a year in birmingham after studying computer science. than the funding ran out and I had to move back home. I am very much a geek of science and computers, and a nerd of everything else. Though I can be a dork in some ways to, but thats just autism.
I may be new on here but I dare the community to create a song using the sounds of radio waves picked up from pulsars. Thats right you read correctly get your sky dishes telescopes and laptops and start building your first radio telescopes you will be piking up radio signals with structure from a pair of dying rotating stars. Of you could do it the easy way and search the net. Which I spent 6 years doing and now have over a Tb of pulsar signals. I just want new stuff.
Thats why I challenge you lot to get them.
Morning all
Hi! I am kwahmah_02, but you might also know me as the shortwave radio-announcement chimes-wood impacts-phone noises guy. I am probably one of the youngest users on Freesound, I'm somewhat proud of that.
I am from Yorkshire, UK, and I like to record the sounds of places I go.
I started recording sounds in April 2014 when I was bored. I had my 4th-generation iPod touch with me (which I still use today) and recorded various noises like CD players, radios tuning, and TVs turning on (some of my many sounds not yet uploaded!)
But then I had nothing to do with all these sounds. In August I joined Freesound.org and made my first handful of uploads. I am one of the most frequently active users, if you go to 'users currently online' you will see I am almost always logged in, just in case.
Recently I've been experimenting how I can create sounds not recorded from my Ipod: AlienXXX provided a link to Twente University's online radio receiver in one of his sounds, and I recorded my first shortwave radio noises, including the mysterious '14077' (I have some recordings of this already on my freesound page). In October I downloaded AudioPaint for weird, bassy, drony type image-to-sound. But I still use my iPod.
If you haven't already guessed my recording equipment is a 4th-generation iPod touch that I got in 2012 and use a lot. I want some different equipment for recording because the iPod can't cope well with wind noise, but I just continue to use my iPod, because people can't easily tell you're recording stuff!
So that is me.
