1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
I use it for academic reasons. Im a student of audivisual design in University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I mostly do sound design and post.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)
Sharing! I like the idea of share our local recordings around the globe for free non comercial use!
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...)
Enviroments, foley, fxs.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others)
I really donw know other sites but thanks for the tip!
1) I'm an amateur filmmaker - I use Freesound primarily as a source of Foley and atmospheric sound effects.
2) Absolutely. As a cooperative effort it's making things easier for creative people to get the sound effects they might otherwise have difficultly finding or creating if they are not sound savvy.
3) "Real sounds" - ideally those that are completely separate from others so they can be easily remixed into my own sound fields.
4) Freesound has always made me feel part of the community; and there's no music here - which (frankly) gets in the way! I also love the visual preview system - neat that.
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
as an uploader to share things (i have to share more, time permitting) and mainly for my public radio jingles.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)
not really, i'm quite happy with things as they are.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...)
realistic sounds only. i think i most frequently used sounds of ocean waves, car traffic, wind, rolling stones etc.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others)
it's cool, it's simple to use.
1) I'm using it for my school video project What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
2) Hmm I don't know
3) I most interested in electronic sounds
4) I don't know other sites like this, and also 'Freesound' was recommended to me
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
I teach theatre at a small public college and use Freesound to find sound fx for our shows. We have virutally no budget for sound, and so find free fx is very important.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)
I perceive the shared goal to be one that is, sadly, disappearing on the web; that being a place where people are interested in helping out others, even others they don't know in the real world, without the need for financial compensation.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...)At the moment, I'm trying to find a 60s V8 starting and driving off, a 60s V8 starting and being floored, the sound of a gym shower with several heads turned on, but no one in it, and a beep that might sound like a missle getting closer and closer to it's target. Each show is different, and each show requires different fx... and each director who directs a show has a different interpretation.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others)
I go to Freesound first, and then start searching elsewhere. Freesound is the only site that I use over and over again, so I'm not really able to compare it to others.
1) What do you use Freesound for?
Electronic music production. Personal entertainment mostly ^_^
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones?
Occupying the very large hole of 'source' style sounds which are completely available to all - the sounds that you can't synthesise or get out a sample pack, but the thunderstorms and ducks quacking and people on streets or bin lids.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in?
A mix of incidental sounds such as background chatter and vinyl pulls and random percussive sounds to use to provide interest and top end to drums. I produce DnB, dubstep, UKG and minimalist music all of which benefit from interesting contrast rhythms and insert fills.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites?
Firstly, the ability to download in very high quality. Secondly, the library of sounds is uniquely eclectic. Finally, no guilty conscience because of the CC licenses. I'd happily credit Freesound if one of my tracks ever got released for example.
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests?
Honestly, I only use it for loopable storms. I do not listen to music so I use it as background sound (not noise) to help me relax, to sleep and to just have on to make me feel better.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones?
I do not know.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in?
Storms, thunder, rain, wind and other such sound.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites?

2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)
Well, there are a few CDs out there that provide samples (to name one: samplearena.com), but 1) Freesound enables one to find sounds much faster and 2) freesound often provides samples of professional quality
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...)
generally, everything produced in nature and by human, which doesn't fit into "regular music" (the music played on the radio all the time). example: noises produced by e-locos

A)If I'm looking for some type of sample or loop Freesound is the first place I will come to. It's quick and easy to find what you're looking for, there's lots of great and inspiring sounds on the site and a lot of people are kind enough to let you download and use their sounds in your own compositions. It's also a great place to share your own sounds if you've made something worth sharing.

4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others)
I know only Soundcloud, which compared to Freesound is much-more oriented towards sharing tracks, and seems much more "mainstream". I also get lots of spam there.
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
I use Freesound for sound cues for my school's theater program.

It doesnt't get blocked from my school's internet.
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...)
I use it for music, mostly for getting samples of instruments I couldn't get otherwise (i.e., more exotic or higher quality). I also use it for "sounds effects" in my music. For instance, I was writing a song and feeling heavily inspired by Japan, so I hunted down some recordings on Freesound of Japanese cicadas. I've also used it to find samples for use in live theatre productions. Those have ranged from car sounds to gunshots.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)
I'm not enough a part of the community to really say. I basically stop in, grab sounds, and leave.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...)
Sounds that require access to unusual equipment, whether the sound source itself or the audio gear to record it. I also use it for free sounds that can be used in commercial applications.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others)
First, it offers more "single hit" type sounds, rather than loops. (This is vastly appealing to me; I almost never use loops in my songs.) It's also organized better, and has a larger selection.
1) What do you use Freesound for? (what are your specific interests? what do you do with Freesound samples? ...) I use them in my YouTube videos and family slideshows.
2) Do you perceive some shared goals in Freesounds user community? If so, which ones? (is there a sense of community? and of long-term goals to be achieved? ...)Yes it is nice to know there's a community of people dedicated to providing unusual sounds that I never thought of, I hope to contribute one day too that other may appreciate.
3) What kinds of sounds are you most interested in? (do you upload and/or download specific types of sounds? which ones? ...) Nature and special effect e.g. transitions and intro movies.
4) What makes Freesound different from other sound sharing sites? (you can compare with sites like Soundcloud, Looperman, CCMixter or others) It is user-friendly, free and accessible.
