Hello Freesound!
I have been using the platform for over 4 years. This is the most amazing and interesting project I have ever encountered. I am trying to find a job at the moment as a motion designer. I am searching for sounds that I can use to polish a showreel of my freelance work.
If I find a job, I will post again so I can show how useful this platform is!
If not I will continue using it, because this platform is simple, easy and well organised.

Parts of this recording were used in an exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History museum in Washington DC. And this was recorded with the built-in mic on a boom box in the 1980s

These are voicemails from my daughter in 1996 & 1998? that I saved on my work voicemail every 21 days (the max allowed) for 10 years before I finally saved them to an audio file. A band in Belgium reached out to me asking if they could use them, and they wrote a song named "Jessamine" after her. Recently the band reached out to me and offered to send Jessamine a signed copy of their CD with her song on it, for her 25th birthday. I still owe them a photo of our family holding the CD. The name of the band is "If Anything Happens to the Cat".

This is my most popular recording. It is an airplane from WW2, flying over a parade commemorating Veteran's Day. Two years later this plane crashed into the nearby Columbia river, killing the pilot that I recorded, along with his passenger.
I am very glad that I made this recording when I did. That also reminds me that I recorded him at the same parade the following year (an even better recording) but haven't uploaded that recording yet.

A radio producer reached out to me about this recording, and did an interview which was included in his nationwide radio show "A Moment in Time" - https://www.amomentintime.com/ My coworkers thought it was hilarious that a phone interview from my cube at work made it onto a national radio show.

This is a recording of bagpipes that I mangled in the editor. I wasn't sure how to describe it so I jokingly described it as "The love songs of jellyfish, deep in the ocean". About a year ago the BBC used it in a radio program about jellyfish
I could go on and on, suffice to say that it is impossible to imagine all the ways that people use these sounds. I have also found it to be impossible to predict which sounds may become popular. Sounds that I think are really great may never get downloaded, and sounds that I think are really boring or low-quality may take off. e.g.

I typically use the "noncommercial attribution" license so that if people want to use one of my sounds commercially, they have to ask me first. That actually happens quite often. I have yet to say "no" or ask for any compensation. So if you are hesitant to ask the creator of a sound for permission to use it, don't be shy, they will most likely say yes.

Hello all, I am a sound and lighting guy. I have a ford expedition that I use to haul my gear and the sound system in it uses some of my PA speakers. So I was wondering if I could play a hot rod engine sound and fool people to believe my truck has that engine in it. So after a brief google search I found https://freesound.org/people/Ears68/sounds/144454/. LOL it is perfect. My dad was my first guinea pig and I believe he bought the aural illusion. Like at a real track you can feel the engine in your chest.
I got a note a few years ago that one of my sounds was being used in a short film as a transition sound effect, so I may have a film credit somewhere out on the web. I also got a note that another sound "Little Girl Giggle" was being used for a kid's game. Finally, I'm in the process of building a "busy box" for my 2 year old grandson as a way to teach my 8 year old grandson basic electronics, and I'm going to use sounds from FreeSound to teach my younger grandson some basic words and numbers.

I just started using freesound and so far it is awesome. We currently provide cleaning services to commercial office and house cleaning in general. We about to upgrade our website (https://tremclean.com.au/) and we are looking at having a music session and a general session. The music(sound) session will be for our regular customers who wants to relax. At this stage we are putting our resources together and we are glade we came across freesound.
I am making a video of underwater archeology, for the culture of the Azores, without commercial purposes.
Can I use your ambient music, disclosing the author?

Great topic!
I originally found FreeSound as I was researching background sounds for Filmmaking course I was taking.
However, I have been so inspired by some of the sounds the sight has, I have actually set out to, not only, curate my own collection... but, to become a FreeSound audio contributor!
I am of the age when the Movie "BlowOut" (with John Travolta) was a box office hit, but never put much thought into the work that was portrayed in the movie. That was, until I began my Filmmaking course this last year. Now, with digital video recording equipment, I find it much more fulfilling to set up my recording equipment and capture audio, instead.
Thanks for the re-direction in my Filmmaking career.

I work for a communications company that installs alert systems for fire stations.
The Fire Chief was looking for a better way to wake the firefighters than the way they had been using, so I decided to add a recordable module to the intercom system at the newest station.
I searched quite extensively through internet sites for sounds for the the alerts when I found Freesound.
I used "4-Tone Chime Up" for the wakeup sound heard over the intercom system when a station alert is triggered by dispatch.
Much better on the nerves than the klaxons or big station bells used at other stations in the district.

Hey there! Don' know where to post this, hope I won't annoy you.
We are a bunch of audio junky's who are planning to create a completely free streaming / sharing and potentially community based audio platform in the next couple of months. In order to come up with the best solutions we'd love to get a sense of the kind of stuff you're making. Wouldn't that be in direct competition to FreeSound?!?
If you want to get a good handle on what people are creating and uploading, all you have to do is click on the "Sounds" tab above and see what's "Recently Added"... That is, of course, unless you're just looking to harvest email addresses, which is completely against FreeSound's Term Of Use" agreement...
