Yah but shouldn't we just stick to the post count to make it easier for everyone, new/old users that may play or still play?

It doesn't matter about keeping a number correct in relation to the exact amount of words input, we just need to follow the thread post count in order to keep track of the number we are currently on. Makes it easier to follow as 18hiltc iterated.

Makes it easy to follow what? I'm not sure why people would want to know the post number as opposed to the word number. I personally would much rather know how many total words have been entered since there isn't a one-to-one relationship between the number of posts and the number of words entered.
